The FiA were really busy this weekend as they handed out seven five-second time penalties.

It was a tough first lap for Ocon who bumped tyres with Antonio Giovinazzi at just the wrong angle. Due to this Ocon had to retire from the race and he brought out the safety car, which we hadn’t seen in a while.

Max Verstappen, took home the grand slam this weekend as he got pole, lead every lap of the race and won, and got the fastest lap. I think it is safe to say that he had a pretty lonely race. The only time we really saw Max was when he was lapping back markers and when he crossed the finish line. He absolutely dominated this race, and the only time someone got near him was when Lando Norris lost out pole position to him by just 0.048 of a second in qualifying.

Lando Norris has had a fantastic two weeks in Austria. This last race he qualified P2, just missing out on beating the Red Bull. When the race came around Lando was right in the mix with the Mercedes and even Checo in the Red Bull. Lando even received some praise from Hamilton, who said Lando was “a great driver” over his team radio. He finished the race in P3, but could have finished P2 if it hadn’t been for the time penalty he got for “pushing another driver off the track”, namely Checo, in turn four.

That move saw Sergio go off into the gravel, and Lando receive the first five-second time penalty of the race. Checo dropped quite a few places and then had a difficult race to try and climb back up into the podium places. Unfortunately he only managed to finish the race in sixth. This result was also helped by the fact that Checo himself received two separate five-second time penalties for pushing Charles Leclerc off the track, both times at turn four.

George Russell had an amazing weekend until the last three laps of the race. He qualified in P9, making it into Q3, on the mediums, for the first time as a Williams driver. He was then bumped up one more place because of Sebastian Vettel’s three place grid penalty for holding up Fernando Alonso in Q2. He was on a great strategy and was riding in the points until the last three laps where he was overtaken by Alonso after trying desperately to defend. He deserves to get the points with Williams so badly, and William’s deserves to get the points and I really hope we get to see that happen this year.

Yuki Tsunoda was another man who got handed two separate five-second time penalties, both times for crossing the white line at the pit entry. Stroll also received a five-second time penalty for speeding in the pit lane.

On the last lap Kimi Raikkonen and Sebastian Vettel tangled on the track and collided with each other. It was not a serious crash, but it did cause double waved yellow flags, and Vettel to qualify as a DNF. Raikkonen received a drive through penalty, which was converted into a 20 second time penalty because the race was finished.

McLaren picked up a good haul of points this weekend with Lando finishing on the podium and Daniel Ricciardo coming home to finish in seventh. They still maintain their lead over Ferrari in the constructors championship.

Max Verstappen brought home the win for the second time at Red Bull’s home circuit. He was joined on the podium by Valtteri Bottas and Lando Norris. In fourth place was Lewis Hamilton, followed by Carlos Sainz in fifth, Sergio Perez in sixth, Daniel Ricciardo in seventh, Charles Leclerc in eighth, Pierre Gasly in ninth and Fernando Alonso rounding out the points finishers.

After the race, Perez, Sainz, Ricciardo, Gasly, Latifi, Mazepin and Giovinazzi were all called to the stewards office because they failed to slow under the double waved flags. However, only Latifi and Mazepin were penalized with 10 second stop and go penalties, which were converted into 30 second time penalties because the race was over.

The triple header was really eventful and produced some great racing. The next race is in two weeks time at Silverstone for the iconic British Grand Prix. It will also be the first race this year to hold the new sprint qualifying format. I am excited to see how things get mixed up and hopefully some more amazing racing.
