The Chinese Grand Prix is raced at that Shanghai International Circuit just outside the city of Shanghai. It was first introduced into the F1 calendar in 2004, and has been part of the calendar since then. It is typically raced in early April, and can often experience rain. Since 2009 it has been part of the beginning of the calendar.

The track is a difficult one, and can be considered a ‘front-limited’ circuit that puts high levels of stress on the front tyres. It is a relatively slow speed track with drivers at full throttle for only 54% of the lap. The most successful driver at the track is Lewis Hamilton who has won the event 5 times, twice with McLaren and three times with Mercedes. The most successful constructor at the track is Mercedes with five victories. This circuit was Red Bull’s first victory, achieved by Sebastian Vettel.

The Chinese Grand Prix was canceled this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but it is set to return in the 2021 season as the third race on the calendar.
